How to Enroll in an ESL Class at the Palmer Campus

STEPS TO ENROLLING IN ESL COURSES AT TRIDENT TECHNICAL COLLEGE

To find out more about these ESL courses, call 843-722-5516 to schedule an ESL orientation.  The ESL orientation usually lasts about 30 minutes.  You must make an appointment as the ESL advisor is not available on a walk-in basis.  You may leave a message on her answering machine.


Fill out an Admissions Application to TTC.  If you are planning to take ESL classes only, check “No” on the section called Plan to Complete Certificate/Diploma/Degree at TTC.  You will need to complete the residency information and provide a photocopy of your visa, passport, or permanent resident card.  You may need other documents to prove your residency to the Admissions office.   There is a $30.00 application fee.  The International Student Admissions contact person can be reached at 574-6921. Apply early so there is time to process the paperwork in time for registration.

Take the ESL Test in the Testing Center, Student Success Center, room 226, Palmer Campus. Call 843-722-5516 to schedule an appointment.  The ESL Test helps determine which levels of the pronunciation, grammar, reading and writing courses are best for you.  You will get an ESL Test Pass when you have your ESL orientation with the ESL advisor.
 
Ø  Register for ESL classes.  You must have a registration form with your classes listed on it.  After you 1) apply and 2) take your test, you will need to make an appointment to schedule your classes.  Register for the ESL classes with Ms. Aldrich, Palmer Campus, room 226, office F.  Call 843-722-5516 for an appointment.
 
Ø  Go to TTC orientation at the Orientation Center on Palmer Campus, room 226.  You may complete orientation any time before classes begin.  Attending orientation is important to help you learn about the college. 
 
Ø  Pay your tuition in the Business Office in the Palmer Campus Bookstore, room 141.  If you do not meet residency requirements, you will pay either the other-county or out-of-state cost per credit hour* for each ESL course.  If you meet local residency requirements, the local per credit hour cost for ESL course applies.  Documents are required for proof of residencyThe Admissions Office determines if you meet residency requirements.  Current tuition and fees are posted on the TTC website: http://www.tridenttech.edu/businessoffice_4397.htm
 
 * Each ESL course is one credit hour.  Read about fees in On Course or on the website.

Get your photo identification in the Admissions Office, Palmer Campus, room 121.  You need the photo ID in the libraries and open labs on every campus.

Attend class on the first day.  Your classes on Palmer Campus are on Monday and Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:20 p.m.   ESL classes are in room

Buy your books in the Bookstore, room 141.   The instructor will tell you which textbooks to buy for your ESL class.  (Save your book receipts.  If you buy your books before class, do not write in them in case your class is cancelled because of low enrollment.  The Bookstore will refund your book money if you have a receipt and your class is cancelled.)
